CONFIRMATION
Adults:
CATHOLICS: Those over the age of 18 who have never received the Sacrament of Confirmation should contact Mary Pat Storms, Director of Adult Faith Formation, 816-251-1113, for information about preparing for this sacrament as an adult. Adult Confirmation is usually celebrated annually by the Bishop at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
NON-CATHOLICS: See the section below entitled “RCIA” for an explanation of the preparation process.
RCIA
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process that prepares non-Catholic adults to receive the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism and/or Eucharist and Confirmation) in the Catholic Church. Those who have never been baptized in any Christian rite prepare to receive all the Sacraments of Initiation during the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday evening. Those who have been baptized in the rite of another Christian religion prepare to make their Profession of Faith, to be received into Full Communion with the Catholic Church, and receive Confirmation and First Eucharist. (Baptism in other Christian rites is recognized by the Catholic Church.)
The Candidates for Full Communion at our parish may be received into the Church at Easter or at other times in the year. RCIA participants attend weekly sessions and participate in various liturgical rites that mark their passage through the initiation process. RCIA is directed by Mary Pat Storms, Director of Adult Faith Formation and is led by a team of volunteer parishioners. Parishioners also serve in the role of sponsor to someone in the RCIA process. The RCIA team coordinates the ministries of hospitality, sponsors, outreach ministry opportunities and community. For more information about the RCIA, or to volunteer as a sponsor or team member, contact Mary Pat Storms, Director of Adult Faith Formation, 816-251-1113.
PARISH MISSION
The Parish hosts an annual parish mission. The parish mission committee will help determine the theme for the coming parish mission, identify possible presenters and help plan and host the parish receptions after the parish mission presentations. For additional information or if interested in serving on the planning committee, contact Mary Pat Storms, Director of Adult Faith Formation, 816-251-1113.
